I Had Failed You My Job Hopping Brethren...

A couple of days ago I wrote a response to Mark Suster's post and Jason Calacanis' rant concerning "job hoppers."  Completing the post was absolutely excruciating. I greatly respect Mark and Jason; however I couldn't in good conscious sit by the "sidelines" and not craft some kind of reply.  After two days of sifting through what I read, cutting out unneeded fat, and sitting in a what can only be defined as "an editor's frass chair," I simply hit the "post" button.  Luckily, I do believe that the folks at Bnet summed up my points hella better in their recent article.  Enjoy!

@Jason And @Msuster Are Wrong About Job Hoppers

Mark Suster and Jason Calacanis have recently come out and publicly admitted that they are not in favor of people who are "Job Hoppers."  Before we go anywhere, I need to come clean and admit that I hold both of these two people in high esteem.  They are both brilliant, funny, and absolutely "killing it" in the tech scene.

IT "Rinky Dickness"

Ok, so as I do my generic Monday, Wednesday, Friday job hunt and resume push I came across this add in Craigslist.  Whoever posted it, I smudged out the email address (just search the job posting # if you care) has their head shoved right up their rectum.  Basically it asks for a person that only knows windows XP (OSX, Vista, 7, Linux blah, blah, blah), HAS some kind of certifications (if you are reading this and do not know who I am, I believe certifications are as effective as...as...yeah), and doesn't have VOIP...FUCK VOIP...wait, no?  Oh and all of this for 14 dollars an hour...yep you heard it here, 14 dollars.  Whoever this person is they have fallen into some kind of giddy, ghost busters like ridiculousness.  Employers please get this through your heads, you are looking for great IT, not this sub par bull shit that create more problems then they fix.  Good IT costs money, sorry for rubbing the Vaseline from your eyes.

Searching for Some Tech Love

So as of right now, I have been to the most ridiculous interview for a contract IT job that I have ever been to.  I walked up to the door, looked back across the road and saw two dogs fighting it out behind a wire fence and realized that perhaps this was not the most "tech" inspired house in the world.  In fact it was not at all; I ended up asking all the questions and anything that was said was for the betterment of my time here rather then the job at hand.  Despite this, I made a friend, I met someone who was amazing, skittish yes, but none the less amazing and worth the trip.  However, that is far from the point.  Not to simply jump the reader around, but I just asked a younger group of folks (40s) if I could enjoy a game of bridge with them. The response that I was expecting was that of acceptance and excitement and instead I was burned with a very cold "no" and some nasty stares.  All of this has led me to wonder?

Is there a place for the people who really know what they are doing in the realm of Technology or should it simply be left to the folks who just mess shit up more for the populace?  Sure we know what we are talking, about but can the populace afford to listen to us?  I hope so because if not we are all in a heap of trouble.  Maybe someday I will fall in with folks who know what they are doing and talking about but until then I am going to simply slam through the waves of jokers.  Who is with me?  Viva la Techno Revolution!
