Links in Comments Kosher? Nope
Are you one of the few people who actually give back to the blogs you love so much? Granted you give those people what they need by actually navigating to the page; however, you should always give back in the form of comments. When you sign up to comment, you get the miraculous ability to embed a url into your username. Therefore, if the shit that comes out of your mouth and is successfully translated onto the computer makes sense and titillates the other folk, they can click on your name and navigate to the specific URL. Like most of the internet (yes it is confusing), there is a certain code of ethics underlying this system.
Comment spam tends to be a troublesome 'motha' if you happen to run or administer a Wordpress blog (or any blog really). This spam, like the stuff that filters into your inbox, is usually full of viagra references and gibberish. Spam filters are extremely good at sniffing this stuff out and deleting it which is a definite breath of fresh air. A hidden rule of thumb, that a lot of people witnessed for many years was to withhold links within the body of the comment due to it functioned much like spam. Now though, oh now, it seems like there are some serious "playas" in the field who think this unwritten rule is useless. This people is like the principle telling you before you exit out your high school doors on a Friday afternoon..."blow jobs don't count this weekend guys." Seriously?
Quit putting links in the body of comments. You get enough props by the URL in your name and that is all you need. You are participating in someone else's conversation in hopes that they might pat you on the back (without links) at an unspecified time in the future. Make your comments succinct, intelligent, and humble...period!
